| Have a lot of folders and shortcuts to folders and files in my very large

| 'HELP' and 'PROGRAMS' database folders.

| Because the shortcuts (there are MANY) take up a lot of disk space (1 full
| cluster
| each for just 1 low-byte shortcut), I thought I'd save some space by cutting
| & pasting them all into a single Word document 'INDEX' file. The single
| file, then,
| in effect, replaces something like 1000 shortcuts.

| That seems to work fine - except that I found it impossible to 'sort' them
| alphabetically, later, either in or out of a Table.
|
| Converting them to 'Hyperlinks' (which, however, retained the frames around
| the
|
| original "xxxxx.lnk" shortcut 'pictures'), didn't help any either - except
| it's a bit
|
| more convenient and faster to single-click the 'hyperlinks' than the
| shortcuts
|
| (double-click plus click OK for warning message).
|
| I am not sure, yet, how much space this expedient will save me but, in
| either case,
| it seems to me to also be less of a strain on the hard drive to handle one
| instead
| of a thousand files; plus, it gives me a very convenient and useful Index.

| Main thing, 'though, it would take me like forever to re-create each
| shortcut from
|
| scratch in the form of a 'pure' hyperlink directly in a Word doc. Even if I
| did,
| I probably still would not be able to automatically sort them.

| Another, lengthy alternative might be to pre-create inactive links in a text
| file,

| sort them in DOS, convert the file to a Word Doc and then painstakingly

| hyperlink for each entry.
