XP Takes AGES to Boot Up??

I recently installed a 1gig stick of RAM in my computer and have had
minor problems with it. Some of the problems include: Firefox not
responding, XP Folders freezing, and the once-a-week crash/restart.

So today, my computer restarts itself and acts as if it has 20MB of RAM
to feed off of. When the "Loading Windows XP" screen appears, the
loading bar sometimes freezes then unfreezes. It has been about 20
minutes now, and the Login screen has just appeared. . . 5 minutes
later, I can actually see my desktop wallpaper.

Can someone please tell me what might be wrong?

I have 2 slots for RAM. . . one is the 1gig stick and the other, a
512MB stick. Surely they both did not burn out. Thanks!
