Re: Norton AV 2006 and XP/SP2 control panel

As far as the antivirus goes, I highly recommend Avast! antivirus, free
edition (www.avast.com)... I only installed it a couple of weeks ago, but I
love it so far. Haven't used Norton much, but I've not heard much good
about it.

Hello! Hope someone can provide some insight into what might have gone
sideways with a couple of computers I'm managing.

Have installed NAV2006 3-user license version on a couple of 3
computers which are for all intents and purposes are mostly identical.
On one of them, everything seems to be fine so far (after disabling
their stupid protection center and reactivating the XP security
center). On the other two, everytime I try to access the control panel
through the start menu, I get an 'encountered error, send info to Daddy
Gates' box. I do, the screen refreshes (ie. taskbar and desktop icons
disappear/reappear) and when I try to access the control panel again,
everything is fine. If I wait a minute or two and try it again, I get
the same sequence of events. I'll mention that the control panel was
totally happy up until the Norton installation so that's why I'm
thinking NAV had something to do with it.

Now I'm *definitely* not happy with this version of NortonAV - I just
wanted antivirus - and will have to research into something else for
when these licenses expire. But is there any way I can diagnose this
and fix this issue in the meantime?

I'd better mention that my computer expertise is only slighly higher
than the average 4 year old computer user <g>...so please, keep the
technospeak to a minimum.

If you'd prefer to email me, try ashrak (spam) 13 (all squished
together) at yahoo dot spam com. Format this address accordingly by
removing the bracketed stuff, spaces and the spam. Or I'll check back
here when I can.

Much thanks in advance for any information!!!
