Yesterday's patch was for a vulnerability in earlier versions of the flash
player. You should be fine with FP8.
Yes, Adobe has a habit of bundling toolbars with it's freeware. That's how
they keep it free, but it is always optional (as long as you pay attention
during installation)

Hello Larry,
Thank You for Your reply and advice.
Yesterday I have installed Windows XP
Security Update (KB913580) I hope I am safe,
still not sure with those flash players.
Please correct me if I am wrong,
Just installed Adobe Reader Version 7.0.7
I find it a little bulk, and invasive, Its size is 65.09MB,
on the HD, "My Antivirus Program is only 40.77MB"
It will install a Toolbar if You do not untick the option.
It wants to run the BHO, (Browser Helper Object ),
and start to run when the System comes on.
With the help of my good Firewall I think we
got it to quite down a bit.
Those are the reasons why I am bit scared to use
Adobe products.
Thanks x@y

Download Flash Player 8

Can it be dangerous? There was a windows critical update for flash
released today.

Hello Everyone,
I run Microsoft Windows Pro, OE6, with IE6, & SP2.
Often I run into Attachments with "swf" File extension,
and OE will not open such Files.
I have searched for an SWF reader and found one,
and downloaded to my desktop, but not installed.
It is called "swf live preview setup" Size= 1.53MB
I am not familiar with SWF files, and their readers.
Is there any Security risks by installing the preview setup and opening
such files?
Please Advise, Thanks x@y
