Re: Re-Verify Password Everytime Shares/Computer is accessed

Hi,

I had a question about Windows XP Professional file sharing that's been
bugging me for quite a while.

I have a roommate whom I trust very much to get on my computer. Heck,
if he wants to browse through my personal folders, read my e-mail, etc.
I don't mind a bit.

The problem is that he has a really dumb cousin who comes over and
starts messing around with his computer. He gets on there and does the
most annoying crap. For instance, he doesn't like Winamp but my
roommate does. Every time he gets on his computer and sees Winamp
though, it's gotta' go! He uninstalls it. He'll then procede to
install all sorts of crazy stuff then he'll snoop around the whole hard
drive until he gets bored.

My question is this: Can I make it so that every time a share is
accessed on my computer, the password needs to be re-entered? It
doesn't matter to my roommate or I how annoying it'd be. We want it to
ask for the password at all opportunities and as much as possible. As
it stands right now, my roommate logs onto his computer and maybe has
to enter his password when he accesses my shares just once, tops. If
neither one of us rebooted for six months he'd never have to re-enter
it. I'm pretty paranoid because his cousin was on about four different
folders and I know he wouldn't hesitate to delete anything and
everything just for fun.

I know there are other options like logging off or locking the
roommate's computer but we'd like to know if this is possible before we
take steps like that. As annoying as his cousin is, my roommate would
rather have him uninstalling winamp then taking apart his tv or
whatever other crazy thing he'd mess with if the computer wasn't
available.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks a lot.

Jesse

Is there any particular reason your roommate can't creat a limited used account for his cousin to use, rather than granting him full access to your computer? Is there any particular reason, other than not caring at all about security, that you and your roommate don't lock or log out of your computers each and every time you step away?
