I use a 3rd party VPN. When I change my Domain password using my
desktop workstation and then take my Notebook out on the field,
since I haven't connected to the Domain before I went offsite with
my notebook, I'm forced to use my old password on the notebook to
login. After establishing VPN, and verifying I have connection by
pinging my servers, I try to connect to my folders on the server,
but am not able to. What can I do to get around this? Is there a
password cache that I could clear or is there another way of
setting my account so that it doesn't save my old password which
seems to be causing a conflit with the new one. If I take the same
notebook and login to the domain on the LAN then go outside and
connect through the VPN, I'm able to connect to my files on the
server with no problem. But the key word is, I have to login with
it on the LAN first before I can connect with it through the VPN.

The proper method would be that after you change your Domain Password
with your desktop, you connect your Notebook to the network and login
using the new password. Then your notebook's password cache will be
synchronized.
You do not want to clear the password cache because then you wouldn't
be able to login in the field even using your old password.
Perhaps a workaround would be to bring up a command prompt and use the
"net use" command to connect to your networked servers specifying your
new password instead of letting it gleen in from your current login:
> net use * \\server\share NewPassword /user:domain\username
