Download the disk diagnostic utilities from the hard drive manufacturer's
web site. It sounds like a bad hard drive.

System was running, shut down (had to shut power off), next time
turned on - recieved error message. unable to get to safe mode.
hangs and returns to disk read error. How do i restore system.
