Bleh,
How to troubleshoot problems connecting to Windows Update or to Microsoft
Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=818018
You cannot view updates on the Windows Update site using secure socket
layer:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=326253
You receive error messages when you use Windows Update through a proxy
server or a firewall:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=241783
FYI, there is a newsgroup available for Windows Update specific problems.
The entire list of Microsoft Public Newsgroups is available in the following
page:

Hi, I'm having problems accessing the windows update site.
I click windows update and when the window starts to open, it never
completes loading.
It was only after I installed SP2 that I started having this problem.
