Older PCs can sometimes have problems with USB mice and keyboards. I'm sure
that some PCs have a setting in the BIOS for USB mice but I can't check this
as my PC pre dates USB input devices. You could check your motherboard
manufacturers website to see if a BIOS update will solve this but given the
risk of a bad flash I would be more inclined to buy the adaptor than take
the chance.
