secondary hard drive not reconized when connected

Both hd are western digital 160gb. they both worked together for past 2 yrs.
I reformatted primary hd using west dig software and loaded windows. when i
connected them back computer won't boot. comes up primary hd 0 and 1 not
found. removed secondary hd. won't boot. reads primary hd 0 not found. I
went into bios and turned of primary hd 1 off and then computer booted and
runs fine. when i reconnect 2nd hd it's not being reconized by computer
especially in bios.

Please help I have all my family pics saved and no back up!!!
