Since installing latest updates for Windows xp & VirusScan the problem seems
to have gone away, so I guess one of the earlier updates caused the problem.
Don't know which one though.

I have the same problem. It only appeared recently and the only changes to
my system that I can recall are
1. Updated McAfee VirusScan
2. Installed several Windows xp updates.
Anything in common?

I have the same problem. Netscape was never installed here. My
workaround is to press Strg+Alt+Del twice and logon without the welcome
screen.
The problem occurs not every time I wish to logon, but in case of first
logon with Strg+Alt+Del and then (logoff before) try to logon by
welcome screen.
I think it is a bug.
