Okay, I'm going through the 10 pages of tips- somewhat slowly-- partly
because I don't have time to do it all at once, and partially because I don't
want to miss anything. . . but I had some questions.

I got on here and signed up for the security newsletter and saw the free do
it all scan (BETA). Tried it out. It took abouut 2 hours to get to the 72%
done mark and I had 4 threats and 7 items. So I left it on all night. That
should do it, right? NO. It was 77% done the next morning. I had to shut
it off.
I have up to date Norton. I use Windows Firewall. And I will use your
recommended malware programs. Do you think it'll find those items? ANd
what's up with this BLA trojan worm that my norton blocks every so often? Is
there something on my computer that is attracting this thing? It's always
the same one and pops up every month or so.
Pay close attention to the sections:
(in order)
- Clean up your hard disk
- Check for errors by running ScanDisk
My scan disk is missing!! I lost it at about the same time that I upgraded
from Windows ME to Windows XP. Where can I find it?
- Defragment your hard disk
I do this periodically.
- Roll back the clock with System Restore
Tip (1):
Locate all of the software you have installed on your computer.
(the installation media - CDs, downloaded files, etc)
Collect these CDs and files together in a central and safe
place along with their CD keys and such. Make backups of these
installation media sets using your favorite copying method (CD/DVD Burner
and application, Disk copier, etc.) You'll be glad to know that if you
have a CD/DVD burner, you may be able to use a free application to make a
duplicate copy of your CDs. One such application is ISORecorder:
> Tip (2):
Empty your Temporary Internet Files and shrink the size it stores to a
size between 128MB and 512MB..
Great, I knew about deleting cookies and such, but shrinking the size is new
information!
I think that's all the questions I have for now!
Thanks,
Amy
