repairing updated version of XP

I bought my copy of XP soon after it came out. I've done all the
upgrades all along. Now, my control panel won't allow me to add/remove
software so I attempted to do a repair with my XP disk. I get a
message saying that the version on my machine is newer than the
version I am trying to use to repair. Any ideas?
