Re: RAID Disk drives

ASUS K8VSE Deluxe Motherboard with SATA RAID (Mirrored data)
Promise SATA RAID (Mirrored boot)
Promise Ultra DMA controller card (one hard drive, one CD-RW on each
channel)

1. Get you system up and running properly with one RAID before
introducing another RAID into the mix
2. With the ASUS board, each time I added a card that could be construed
as a boot device, the BIOS chose that device as the default boot device. Had
to enter BIOS to reorganize the boot devices.
3. With so many (3) possible boot devices, I can not use "F8" to get a
boot menu for accessing SAFE mode -- rather, I get a BOOT DEVICE selector
menu.

Like to know if anyone ever tried running WIN XP with two sets of RAID?
one built-in RAID 5 from NVIDIA on mainboard and another with Adaptec

what will be potential problems? driver conflicts?, reliability?

my PC is running out of disk space and need to upgrade. If it is reliable
and problem free to run 2 sets of RAID, I will just buy additional adaptor
and hard drives - less work that way, otherwise I just have to do the slow
way:
- ghost image the boot and system partitions onto a new large drive from
the other OS on the PC
- reboot into the primary OS
- partition the remainder of the large drive and copy all other partitions
from old RAID drive
- shutdown,
- take out all old drives and in goes the new large drive
- reboot to RAID utility
- hotplug in the other two drives
- add to array and rebuild
- reboot into Xp and let rebuild process to complete. -this may take a
long time
