I had actually already downloaded the Norton uninstall files and had used
them, but I was still getting the pesky window. I had been thinking about
not trying to reinstall Norton and using to a different program, but your
post gave me the courage to go ahead and try to reinstall Norton. It worked
like a charm this time, and that pesky window disappeared!

2. A pesky window is always showing the message I mentioned above: "There
is no disk in the drive..."--it won't even go behind another window (I
just
have to shove it off to the side while I'm trying to do something.)

I'm pretty sure this has to do with Norton, but the Symantec tech support
would not take ownership of the problem and said it was not caused by the
failed installation of Norton.

I would be ever so grateful if someone could tell me what to do or direct
me
to an appropriate website.

Norton are NOT to be believed
Go to the home site and download the special removal tool and uninstall all
Norton files
Then reinstall NIS---make sure you run Diskcleanup and close all running
files before installing
