is it that version a bit old for XP?

BTW your formatting seems way too time consuming even at 40 minutes.
What speed is your recorder? media?, what is your PC CPU and RAM?

The new CD-RWs at 52x cost $25 or less and likely bundles with freebies like
Ahead Express that can format a disk in less than 10 minutes on a PC even as
old as P3 575Mhz. But then with that type PC, you can hardly do anything
while formatting or making CD; otherwise you may end up coasters or a lot
less capacity.

the usual 40 minutes) and the newly formatted disks have 115 mb of
space used and the rest free. before this problem occurred i used to
format in 40 minutes and get all 700 mb free when format was complete .
