Welcome screen doesn't allow logins.

I have only two accounts on my machine: Admin and a User account. When i logout of User or Admin accounts and get to the Welcome screen, i cannot log back in. The logon white boxes are there, but i cannot type my password inside of them. There is no blinking cursor in those boxes. Only way it works is that if i reboot, then the boxes have a cursor on the Welcome screen. But logging out and then trying to log back in, is a no go.

I tried these things:

1) Ran 3 different antivirus programs
2) 3 or 4 different antispyware programs
4) Uninstalled all the services in my systray (Avast, MS Antispyware, Weatherpulse), which had no effect.
5) Did System Restore.
6) Ran system file checker (sfc /scannow).
7) Looked at windows event viewer, which is not showing anything at all of interest.
8) Give up??

Only two things remaining are Windows Repair and a complete reinstall. I HATE reinstalling...since i just did that like a month ago.

There are two things worth mentioning:

-I think its related to the fact that i had installed Netscape 8.1 (yeah, stupid me). After removing it, this login problem had started. As far as i know, things were going fine before that.

or

-A few days ago i found out that Starforce had secretly found a way to install itself. Probably from a game demo i tried. Was successfull in removing starforce with their utility.

My blame is going to Netscape though...it borked something.

Anyone want to suggest anything (logs, etc)? Or is repair/reinstall the only thing to do?

Using WinXp pro Sp2 with all the updates.
