DaveK:
First of all, is your 80 GB HD bootable and functions without any problems?
Let me repeat that...
Is your 80 GB HD bootable and functions without any problems?

If your answer is an unequivocal "yes" we can go on. If your answer is "no",
or "well, maybe", then we stop right here and you first get that drive to a
bootable, functional state without any problems.

You see what I'm driving at, right? If you clone garbage, garbage is what
you'll get. So your source disk must be bootable and functioning
problem-free in order to create a viable clone.

We haven't used DriveImage in quite a while. We were never impressed with
its disk cloning capability at least as compared to the Norton Ghost 2003
program we've been using for some time. Although I have to admit that many
users find DI more than acceptable for that purpose. But it's not *my*
program of choice in this area.

Why the Seagate utility didn't work for you I don't know. I assume your 200
GB HD is a Seagate PATA drive, right? Are you absolutely sure you precisely
followed Seagate's instructions to copy (clone) your 80 GB HD to the new
one? Did you try it again?

After the copying (cloning) operation) are you absolutely sure your 200 GB
HD was (is) correctly configured/connected/jumpered before you tried to boot
to it? Absolutely sure? (I'm assuming that the 200 GB HD is an internal
drive, right?)

Have you used the Seagate diagnostic utility to ensure the drive is
non-defective?

For basic disk-to-disk cloning we use either Norton Ghost 2003 (bootable
floppy disk or bootable CD) or Acronis True Image (bootable CD), another
disk imaging program that's very popular. If you're still unable to create a
"good" clone and want to pursue this issue further using either of those
programs, so indicate and we'll try to help, as I'm sure other responders to
your query will as well.
