You need Remote Desktop enabled on the computer you are trying to connect to
[Control Panel --> System --> Remote Tab].
You need to know the IP address of the computer you are trying to connect
to.
You need a valid logon id/password for the computer you are trying to
coonect to.

>From the computer you are using to connect to the other machine run Remote
Desktop Connection [Programs --> Accessories --->Communications} When you
run this program you will get a dialogue box enter the IP address and press
Connect. You should be presented with a logon dialogue box which requires
username and password.

Hardware/software firewalls

My router with inbuilt firewall ignores local machines.
Zonealarm {which I have configured to connect to another computer} has a
setting in Program Control, Programs for Remote Desktop Connection -
mstsc.exe
Norton - no idea as I do not use it but remote desktop uses port 3389

Can I suggest that you disconnect from the Internet {pull the plug} and
disable both ZA and Norton and see if you can get a connection. If you can
then enable one of the firewalls and see if you can get a connection rinse
repeat. That way we can possibly isolate the problem.

I will be up for a few more hours, it is just after midnight here, so I will
watch for replies or you can contact me directly {my full forename} {funny
