I had this problem once, it was a power supply issue (not enough juice) and happened during boot when all of my pci cards are initialised. I was lucky
as removing and re-inserting the power lead solved it but it could be the
first signs of your PSU failing.

A computer usually does boot completely or does not boot ... the ram contacts, PCI and ISA card slots, tap all the chips firmly on the ... and no hard disks or PCI cards beyond the minimum and see if that passes ... so I'll be able to remove all components but the motherboard and cpu.... Re: Found an Alienware M9700 in the dumpster ... Buy a cheap power adapter off ebay and see if it will boot up ... The screen is broken and the battery doesn't have enough juice to boot... (comp.sys.laptops)
