Temporarily uninstalling a patch is certainly a valid troubleshooting
technique.
Reasonable precautions need to be taken, in this case, no surfing and
possibly disconnecting the network connection.
But uninstalling the patch may be the only way to determine if it was the
cause and thus lead to a fix.
