Sorry for not replying sooner - I am away for most weekends and have no
internet access during this time.
www.divx.com is the most obvious site, and they have (or at least used
to have a free version).
There is also FFDSHOW which I like very much and prefer to DivX. For
one thing, it can be configured to decode many different types of files
and can take the place of many separate CODECs. Also, looking at CPU
usage when using FFDSHOW compared to DIVX, for the same files, the
former (FFDS) shows much lower usage, and despite repeated comparisons,
I am not able to see any difference in quality. And, FFDSHOW can also
be used as an ENCODER.
