hi neil
i've had a similar prob just this morning. Symantec live update was
connecting fine, so the connection was definately active, but the browsers
gave a 404 error message. i had trouble with the ISP last week, so i phoned
them wondering if it was their fault again, but they said no, and that
content filter was on my account, so they switched it off and now i'm
browsing again. maybe they can help you. i'm using a laptop too, but not a pc
with a tower
