Try this
Start, Run, type "regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll" without the quotes and hit ENTER. This stops Windows Explorer displaying zip files.
To reverse the process, which you may need to do from time to time, Start, Run, type "regsvr32 zipfldr.dll" without the quotes and hit ENTER.
If this by any chance the solution does not work I have found an alternative.

I guess I dont understand how anti-spyware controls explorer trying to expand zip files. Turning on and off MS antispyware doesnt seem to have any effect.

the results and post a further message telling us whether the problem
has gone way.
If not installed download Adaware and / or update Reference file from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ and use it to remove parasites.

Always tries to expand ZIP files. I have a directory with lots of big ones and if I click on it, Eplorer hangs for 10-15 minutes trying to open the zip files.
Have an AMD 3500. Should be zippy!
How do I make this thing benign like Win2K (stop taking cpu cycles all the time and stop trying to expand zip files)? Its obnixious now. Considering going back to Win2K if I cant fix it.
