hey, a friend of mine had a trojan on her computer, so i used her
antivirus program to remove it for her,but instead of isolating the
affected files it delted them, and programs uch as AOL wouldn't load
because a .dll file was missing, which i put back on from my computer
which is also running XP. Again when i tried to open AOL, a message
came up, this time
"the procedure entry point SHRegGetValueW could not be located in the
dynamic link library shlwapi.dll"
so i looked on the net trying to find how to fix this, i followed
instructions on a different forum, and i had to reboot. unfortunetly
when i rebooted it came up with:
please select the operating system to start: windows xp home or xp
setup.
xp home leads to the safe mode screen options, last known config, start
normally etc, whenever i select one of these it freezes.
If i select setup it says:
"windows could not start because the following file is missing or
corrupt:
<windows root>\system32\hal.dll
please reinstall a copy of the above file"
so i tried using the xp home installation disc my friend gave me, but
when i get the blue screen and hit r for repair, it says:
"File pci.sys caused an unexpected error (4096) at line 5897 in
d:\xpsp1\base\boot\setup\setup.c
press any key to continue"
when hit a key, it says setup failed, press any key to reboot
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how can i fix this? i have the xp home sp1 disc, and an xp pro sp2
disc, any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
thanks
