If you have Word included in your Works package, you could try one of its
features to try and recover whatever's left of the original document in
that corrupted file. Under File> Open: "Recover text from any file" is one
of the choices in Word's "files of type" drop down list.

TIP: When working with large documents, work from a copy. After new work
session is finished and saved, delete old copy.
