Multiple Problems (slow,freezing,errors)

ugh, i cant seem to run programs anymore without having them freeze on
me after a while, my IE doesnt allow me to open multiple windows
aswell, it allows me to open 2, after that it freezes, i remember a
while back i didnt pay attention to that lil' "updates are ready for
your computer" and when i finally had the time i click it, downloaded
buncha stuff and then my computer crashed, totally black, i restored
the whole thing and now im trying to update but with an update CD i
ordered, well i cant seem to do that ether, i put in the CD and IT to
freezes...EVERYTHINGS freezing and not responding!..thought it was slow
cuz it needed updates, but i cant even get that done. Also should i have
so many Processes running? i have bout 57, does that have anything to do
with the slowness..and when i have nothing running and i want to
shutdown i have a couple programs that say are running and waiting for
a response from me.what is that about?..PLEASE help!..or direct me to a
post with similar problems so i can start fixing!
