But for better results, create a new Windows XP CD
with SP 2 slipstreamed, then install Windows XP.
Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

or
AutoStreamer 1.0.33 (preferred)

| Hi,
|
| I posted here a couple of weeks ago about problems with my old computer
| after installing some anti-virus software. It looks like my problems were
| probably hardware related, because my computer became ever more unreliable as
| I tried to fix things. Last weekend I gave up and bought the components for a
| new system.
|
| Deciding to build a Photoshop power house I went with an Asus P5WD2 Premium
| mobo that has the 955X chipset. This mobo has everything on board, gbit LAN,
| USB, 1394, IDE, SATA and RAID controllers. However I haven't been able to get
| Windows XP to behave properly. It keeps restarting for no apparent reason. I
| have not been able to complete the SP2 upgrade yet because it ususally
| restarts during the download/upgrade process.
|
| When I initially configured the computer, I didn't install all of the
| drivers for some of the more advanced mobo features because I wanted a stable
| XP install first. I went with just the ITE-xxx ide drivers, the two lan
| drivers, and drivers for my GeForce 6600 PCI-E video card. Additionally I
| have installed my Adaptec 2940UW scsi adapter (with no devices attached yet)
| and the drivers for my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet.
|
| I'm using the dual core Pentium D at 2.8Ghz, and 2GB of DDR2 533 RAM. I am
| just trying to get a basic stable up and running before making use of the
| SATA raid features.
|
| Is there something I need to know about installing the 32 bit version of
| WinXP on this type of machine? Is there something that needs to be
| enabled/disabled before I can get a stable XP instance? Would I encounter
| fewer problems if I were to upgrade to the 64-bit version of XP?
|
| I'm kinda desperate for a solution now.
|
| Thanks, Derek
