Re: Sound Program missing in xp home

Newdot~2.dll is an Internet Explorer add-on that allows users to access
non-standard domains such as .shop, .med, .mp3, etc., and provides search
results when a user enters keywords in the address bar or attempts to
resolve a mistaken or non-existing URL. It is usually not harmful , but is
considered adware as it installs behind your back and its purpose is to
generate revenue for its manufacturer.
Newdot is installed by applications that are known to carry malicious adware
and spyware, such as AudioGalaxy, KaZaA, iMesh, Grokster, BearShare, Babylon
and Radlight. If you have newdot, you may have other adware/spyware as
well.

Simply reinstalling Windows will not remove malware. You should update your
anti-virus and anti-spyware software and scan your computer.

The volume control seen in the notification area is invoked by Control Panel
> Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds tab > Place volume icon in the taskbar.
If you don't have the Sounds and Audio Devices icon in Control Panel you can
invoke it by double-clicking on c:\windows\system32\mmsys.cpl. If your sound
card no longer works you can uninstall it from Device Manager (Control Panel
> System > Hardware tab > Device Manager > right-click on your sound card >
Uninstall) and then reboot your computer. Windows will automatically
configure the sound card and install a driver.

And make Junior's account a limited user so s/he won't be able to cause so
much damage in future.
