Windows Freezing

I have WindowsXP1, IE6. For some reason when I am on the internet my
computer will freeze up. It's as if no power is going through at all. The
mouse and keyboard don't work. The only way to get it working again is
turning the power off and then on.

It freezes at odd times. When I am on a page and just scrolling with my
mouse When a picture is downloading on the page being displayed. It also
does this when I try scanning with my virus software-Norton. On Norton it
freezes up at common files, .txt, .exe, and .jpg. The last time I was able
to scan for viruses was Sept. 16 of this year.

The hard drive was replaced and programs reinstalled. Whgen I had the first
hard drive, it was freezing up. So, I tried XP2 just to see-still froze up.
So, the hard drive was replaced. Again, no luck.

Oh and another thing. When I start up my computer, my history is wiped out.
Pages I've been to previously are not highlighted. OH, and I did replace my
mouse and keyboard thinking that was the problem.

Can anyone figure this out? Help!!
