Re: XP boot disk

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I've been trying and failing all day to build an XP start up CD which will
start enough of XP to allow me to run Norton utilities from a CD to my hard
disk.
I tried the recovery console, which got me to a command prompt, but then
wouldn't let me eject the CD and put the Norton one in.
I tried Barts' but it failed due to the hard disk problem I'm hoping to fix
with Norton.

(However, it was quie impressive and easy to build!!)

I tried several other methods, but even when I took 'setup.exe' off the
image, it still went through the setup process, dropped out to the recovery
console, and then would only allow a fixed set of microsoft programs to run.
- I had managed to generate a disk with the utils on it. - Again I couldn't
eject the cd.
It is my laptop which has the problem and doesn't have a floppy drive.:

So does anyone know how I can create a XP boot cd, that
doesn't run setup
will allow the CD to be removed
will allow access to a NTFS 60 gig hard disk.

At 8 Am this morning, I thought I was in for an interesting hour. It turned
into a frustrating 11 hours.
