Modem on all nite

im not sure if the problem is subject related..i 's on the internet all nite
and then turned off the computer w/o disconnecting modem ...Next day when i
tried to call my home tel# getting busy..sbc fieldtech isolated short
w/modem..w/modem disconn home tel# works fine..diagnostics n device mgr
indicates modem working fine ..i tried to surf again and mssg"no dial tone"
-i cheked phone chord .jack outlet w/working phone ..works ok..as soon as u
connect modem 2 wall jack..and call home tel# getting busy tone..is the modem
damaged or the modem never s/w off after all nite activity..
pLz HELP
