You should not restore from a Retail CD. Your computer comes with a hidden
restore partition that will return it to a factory fresh state. The reason
you do not want to use a purchased CD is that none of the drivers and extra
programs and software that came with your computer are on that CD. The
hidden partition contains all the drivers for your hardware, as well as all
the programs and utilities that shipped with the computer.
To access the restore function, you have to press a certain key during
boot-up. Not sure which key it is you have to press on a Sony; you'll have
to check the documentation or help files that came with the computer.
