WindowsUpdate not working

Hiya,
Trying to get windows update to work, but it doesn?t start downloading
(it tried and then just closes or hangs up). Background Intelligent
Transfers won?t start up, and there are lots of things in event viewer
with MsiInstaller and DCOM. Really don?t understand what has gone
wrong or how to fix it.
(Currently running XP with SP2, I can provide further information if
told what is needed)
