program wont run under windows XP w/ more than 1 GB memory

I bought some software that came with a troubleshooting alert that read "The
program wont run under Windows XP and 2000 on systems with 1GB or more of
memory." And it gives instructions on how to change the virtual memory
settings in order to get it to work. However, these settings dont work so I
was wondering if it would be possible to convert the software into something
that will work under XP.

Thank you
.
