Hi Fitzbugglit,
That error message is probably caused by the control panel applet for the
Realtek AC97 Audio Sound Effect Manager.
If you have a separate sound card installed, in addition to the AC97 onboard
sound controller, either disable the onboard sound controller in Device
Manager or rename the ALSNDMGR.CPL file in the Windows\System32 folder to
something like ALSNDMGRCPL.OLD
If you do not have a separate sound card installed, try updating the drivers
for the onboard sound controller.......if there are updated drivers, they
should be available for d/load from the motherboard manufacturer's website.
