To show the clock,
1) Right-click on the Start button
2) Choose "Properties" from the popup menu
3) Click on the "Taskbar" tab
4) Put a check-mark beside "Show the system clock".
5) "Ok" out.
This will show the time.

To show the day of the week below the time,
1) Right-click on the Taskbar.
2) Uncheck "Lock the taskbar".
3) Hover the mouse pointer over the top edge of the Taskbar until it becomes
a double-headed arrow.
4) While holding the left button of the mouse down, drag the Taskbar until
the day of the week shows in the Notification Area.
5) Right-click on the Taskbar.
6) Check "Lock the taskbar"
To show the system "Short date" below the day of the week,
Repeat 1-6 above, except in Step 4, drag the Taskbar until the system "Short
date" shows in the Notification Area.

To change the format of the Short date,
1) click on the Start button
2) Click on "Control Panel"
3) Click on "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options"
4) Click on "Change the format of numbers, dates, and times"
5) Click on the "Regional Options" tab
6) Click on the Customise" button
7) Click on the "Date" tab
8) Select the format string next to "Short date format"
9) Change the format to what you want, where
"M" = month number without leading zero, as in "1", "2", "3"..."12"
"MM" = month number with leading zero, as in "01", "02", "03"..."12"
"MMM"= shortened month text, as in "Jan", "Feb", "Mar"..."Dec".
"MMMM" = full month text, as in "January", "February", "March"..."December"
"d" = day of month without leading zero, as in "1", "2", "3"..."31"
"dd" = day of month with leading zero, as in "01", "02", "03",.."31"
"yy" = 2 digit year with leading zero
"yyyy" = 4 digit year with leading zero"
10) Change date separator to what you want (or leave it the same. It's up
to you.)
11) "Ok" out

*** NOTE***
The formats above are localized for United States. If your locality uses
different formats, change it to the one you want, using "M" for month, "d"
for day of month, and "y" for year.
"M", "d", and "y" may be placed in any order you desire. Do not include the
quotemarks.
