hibernate does not auto-hibernate

The hibernate feature in "powwer scheme" no longer kicks in when my computer
powers down. "Hibernate" is enabled and the monitor and hard disk shut down
and stand-by all occur after the selected time interval, but hibernate
doesn't.
Everythng ws fine until I installed SP2. Does anyone have a handle on this
problem?? Grateful for your help
