Well, I had found an old win98 disk and used that to fdisk then format the drive, thats when the problem started. I tried the /mbr thing and it didn't do anything... not sure what that was supose to do. I am wondering now if my drive took a dump (the cd) I started with cd-rom suport but I can't read the drive or any disk I put in.
Randy, how did you format your drive? I would go into the Bios and set the cdrom drive as first boot device. Then
using the Recovery Console that's on the WinXP CD try using the commands. Fixboot, FixMbr. Check here for more
info http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058/EN-US/
Here's another method though fdisk in Dos is a little more complicated.
I would go here www.bootdisk.com and download and create a Win98SE
Boot disk. Then I would go into the Bios and set the floppy drive as first boot device. Insert the newly created floppy
and bootup. At the A:\ type: fdisk /mbr remove the floppy and insert the WinXP CD. Restart and see if everything
checks out. If yes, continue with the Install. If not then use the floppy bootdisk again and when at A:\ type fdisk and
follow the instructions. Try deleting and then creating new partition and then formatting. When you are ready to format
at the A:\ type format C:
.
