I am running XP Pro with 512mb of ram. My version of XP is one that came
out very early, before sp1 had been released or at least sp1 is NOT part of
it. XP has performed very well for well for over 3 yrs. I have always kept
it updated. Recently I cracked the Mother Board and had to have it
replaced.
Installing XP went well after calling MS for new activation. Here is what I
would like to know. I have the update CD and the SP2 CD both that I ordered
from Microsoft. After installing XP, I put in the update CD and instead of
just installing the updates, it sent me to the XP update page and indicated
I needed about 15 updates, which I installed. SP2 at that point did not
show as an update option.
After rebooting, then SP2 was listed as an update option, which I installed
from the update page. After installing SP2, then another 26 updates were
needed.
I thought the point of having these CDs was to prevent the need for all
those downloads from the update page. Should I have used the SP2 CD to
start with and bypassed the normal update CD? Is it because my XP install
disk is so old that causes this abnormality?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
