Windows Update doesn't work

For some reason when I go to windows update on my computer the screen comes
up and says "Checking for the latest version....." Usually a security
warning comes up and asks if I want to install it etc. That is not
happening now. I hear a couple clicks like it is being blocked. Anyway the
update never happens.

I have SP1 and remove all popup blockers and toolbars for IE and install
PC-CILLIN personal virus protection w/ firewall and spyware checker. My
system appears clean.

Any ideas?
