I think upgrading or 'refreshing' the BIOS couldn't hurt, and it will let you know something, anyway. I suppose you have to admit it
might be some physical hardware connection or damage issue. I would find a friendly hardware repair person to have it checked. As
always, it's 'how much to buy new' vs. repair. (An unexpired warrantee would be nice.)

You should Certainly be seeing the USB without any problem. When Device Manager fails to find it, it's not just a driver thing.
