" A disk read error occurred"

Running Windows Xp home edition SP2

About 5 or 6months ago I put my computer together with the help of a
friend. All parts were new. So everything was working fine until I get
this one day.

I get this error after I did the following:

-I was surfing the net Bills/mail and so on
- Decided to run Disk Defrag (I run that once or twice a week)
- After I was finish with that, I restarted my computer, accidently
pushed log off, so I canceled that and went to start>shutdown>restart
again. (just giving details on what i was exactly doing)

Now when it restarts...does the normal loading, until it hits Certain
part of the loading

Says " A disk read error occurred"
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

So I did...samething happened. Over and over.

Not sure if its windows xp or I'm guessing the disk read error is my
hard drive?

I'm pretty much lost. Everything is basically new. Using my notebook at
the moment. Thanks in advance for any of the help.
