Mark, Thanks for the direction to this page. I have saved it in favorites and
will use it frequently. However, I still don't know how to preclude this
issue. Once I backdate my configuration to an earlier date I can always get
in. I don't understand why when I update a couple of weeks later - the
system works. This has gone on for more than two years on this xp based
machine sometimes the updates work and sometimes I have to back up. I keeps
me from having the courage to install service pack 2 - for which I have
received the disk from Microsoft. If I can't make it work, I get the
impression that backing up to an earlier configuration is not possible.
