My Opinion, Symantec messes with your system, uses to much resources (memory
hog), does not catch certain viruses where other programs will (but I am
sure other programs have the same problem). and what you just found out
...there support site does not give you very much as for troubleshooting.

If you want other opinions about Symantec, start a new post about Symantec's
NIS product.
