1) Does the CMOS Setup recognize the A: drive? On most PC's pressing the
DEL key during bootup will display the CMOS Setup Utility. The disk
drives are listed in the first category.
2) The ribbon cable may have come loose from the drive or the mainboard
FDD connector. Check it. This requires opening the case. If you are not
comfortable doing this get a technician to check it for you.
3) Click "Start" - "Run" and type "cmd" (no quotes) and click OK. In the
command shell window type:
dir a:\
and press enter key. Does the A: drive directory listing appear? If no
try the diskette on another computer. If works on other computers then
your FDD drive may be toast. Replace the drive, FDD's are cheap now. If
the floppy diskette is not readable on other "known to be good"
computers the diskette is bad.
Since floppies are magnetic media storing them in the sun, near the
monitor, or near speakers can and will corrupt the data on the disk.
