Computer Restarts. Now just hangs. PLease helph

Hi all,
Can someone please help me.. My computer used to restart constantly.
after reading the newsgroups and reading everything i have stoped it
restarting by unchecking the restart windows option, however now my computer
just hangs often and has pronlems shutting down. I have an AMD 2.4Ghz 512ddr
ram 128ddr winfast ti4200 video card 4 fans in box 1x 40 gig hd 1x 80gig hd.
i have used vet and also avg and found no virus and both scaners are up to
date. They are not both running at same time. get the following msg in event
viewer;.

can someone help. i have registry mechanic and that has not fixed problem.i
did get one msg from vet saying C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\KERNELL32.DLL is
Win32.Faxbat.B worm however there is no such worm and avg does not find
anything wrong with my kernell. i am lost
