More dialup problems!!!!!

Hi, the problem is still there with the US Robotics 56k fax modem.
My cousin removed all fax software from his machine (that is what 'Error
633' solution says), rebooted, tried to dialup his ISP, but modem only
flashes briefly, then nothing , except Error 633 message again.
So if there is no fax software, and so nothing else is? or can use the
com port1 which the modem is connected to, what else is causing that
said error?
The WinXP system does detect and recognise the modem correctly, and it
does communicate with it using the ' querry modem' function.
Any ideas anyone?
