Black Screen Start up

Hello, I just installed Windows XP Pro onto my computer. When it starts up
after the splash screen I get a black screen. When I pop in a cd..I at least
see the mouse change. I think there maybe something wrong with the video
setup. How do I get into safe mode? Thank you
