It could be that after starting your video editing program, your "File ->
Open" dialog box will only display files associated with your editing
program, i.e. files created by your video editing program. In the File ->
Open dialog box, can you select the *type* of files to show (this is
generally the Type field below the Filename field in your Open File dialog
box)? Select "All files" to see all your files, regardless of types, for a
given folder. Now that you can see them all, select your footage and press
the Open button. I guess that you will receive an error message. Why? If
your footage does not want to open after you selected it, we will have to
assume that you can only open movies you already have edited or work in
progress that have been created by your editing software, *not the capered
footing*. Check with your editing program's user manual; you will *possibly*
find out that raw footage has to be *inserted* rather than opened with some
other menu than the "File -> Open" menu. Since this is a Windows XP
newsgroup, this is the best I can do to help; I don't even know which
software you use to edit your video clips. Video editing is quite exciting
and I don't doubt you will get the hang of it very quickly. There likely is
a newsgroup dedicated to your editing software or generic video editing
newsgroups where your questions will be better answered, and the software's
website may help you as well.
